Percy Harvey Lees
(October 10, 1916 – August 6, 2010)
Percy passed away on Friday, August 6, 2010 at Deer View Lodge in Wawota, SK at the age of 93.
Percy was born October 10, 1916 on his parents’ farm north of Parkman. He was the eldest of 4 children born to William and Pearl Lees. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Pearl; his loving wife of 67 years, May; brother Eric; sister Elsie; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Harvey and Sarah Wilson; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Albert and Aura Wilson, Tom Wilson, Marg and Carl Sargent, and Robert Tonnellier.
He is survived by his sons, David (Ruth) and Gerald; sister Doris (Al) Smith; sisters-in-law, Marg Lees, and Mildred Wilson; grandchildren, Rhonda Lees, Tara (Glenn) Veysey, Adam (Heather) Lees, Kendra Lees, Katrina Lees, Sharon Lees, Kent Lees; great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Zach Lees, Akayla and Raeanna Veysey, as well as many nieces and nephews.
When Percy quit school he started a trucking business and then in 1946 he purchased the Parkman Store from his father. Percy and May were married July 15, 1938. They owned the store in 1979 when he sold it and retired. For the last 28 years of owning the store he was also Post Master of Parkman. Percy was also involved in the community and was secretary for the Parkman Hall and Rink for 50 years. Percy was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed curling when he found the time to do it. He was on church boards at different times over the years and for a time he was a paymaster for cashing grain cheques for the Parkman elevator.
Percy and May sold their home in Parkman in 2003 and moved to Redvers. After May’s death he moved to the Sunrise Villa in Maryfield and later to Deer View Lodge in Wawota where he resided until his death.
A funeral service for Percy will be held on Tuesday, August 10, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the Free Methodist Church, Wawota, SK, with Dennis Camplin officiating. Interment will take place in the Parkman Cemetery.
