Myrtle Chapdelaine
(March 4, 1922 – June 29, 2010)

It is with extreme sadness and with heavy hearts that the family of Myrtle Chapdelaine announce her peaceful passing on the morning of June 29, 2010 at Hillview Manor in Estevan, Saskatchewan.

Myrtle was born Myrtle Beamish on March 4, 1922 in Gainsborough, Saskatchewan during a snowstorm. She always told the story of how her daddy drove the doctor on his house calls around the country and was away with the doctor the night that she was born.

Myrtle had a wonderful childhood filled with love, laughter, and music. She played in an orchestra when she was young, first playing the piano and later the drums. When the Second World War broke out, Myrtle joined the air force, much to her parents’ chargrin! She left her small prairie town to serve her country, and was stationed in Centralia, Ottawa and Dayton, Ohio.

Myrtle married David Henderson in 1946 and they had four children. David passed away in 1965 and she married Eugene Chapdelaine in 1967. Eugene passed away in 2005.

Myrtle deeply loved each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and had a special way of making each one feel that he or she was her favourite. Her keen sense of humour along with her caring, intuitive nature brought joy to everyone she met. Many of us have fond memories of laughing with her until the tears rolled! She loved music and writing poetry, finding inspiration in her strong faith in God.

She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her.

Myrtle is survived by her children: Donn Henderson (Monica) of Regina, SK, Darla Goertz (Lyle) of London, England, Murray Henderson (Michelle) of Estevan, Mark Henderson (Beverly) of Estevan; grandchildren (her special angels): Dion, Christopher, Jessi, Stephanie, Joel, Stacey, Brady, Marley; six great grandchildren; sisters: Moneta Firth, Myrna Hattie (Allen), Marilyn Giles; and sister in law Harriet Slade.

She was predeceased by her parents: Wesley and Maude Beamish; sister Verna; husband Eugene (2005); and first husband David (1965).

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 2, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hall Funeral Services with Mr. Doug Third officiant. Interment at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens with lunch at the Taylorton Room in the Days Inn Plaza, Estevan to follow.

We wish to extend our sincerest gratitude to the staff of Hillview Manor for the love and care they provided mom. She spoke often of how much she loved each and every one of you.

In lieu of flowers please donate to a charity of your choice.

Toodle oo for noo, Mom
