Louis John Boey
(May 16, 1919 – November 1, 2010)
With sadness, the family of Louis Boey announces his passing on Nov. 1st at Grace Hospice in Regina.
He was predeceased by his parents, Alphonse and Irene Boey, four brothers and four sisters, and in 2002 by the love of his life, Madeline Boey.
He leaves eight children and their families to celebrate his memories: Elaine (Gordon) Green, Yvonne (Ron) Kruzeniski, Dennis (Marcia) Boey, Gerald (Jane) Boey, Lester (Joan) Boey, Teresa (Kelly) Vall, Janice (Jim) Crawford, Michelle Boey, 24 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren with 2 on the way.
Louis was born in the Benson area and as a young man joined the 3rd Canadian Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment known as the “Governor General’s Horse Guards. He served his country in the Second World War and saw duty in Italy, France, Germany and Holland as a wireless radio operator. Returning home, he and Madeline farmed for a short while near Benson before moving to Estevan. He lived in Estevan over fifty years where he was a businessman and active member of his community. He and Madeline raised their children in Estevan, but after Madeline’s death, he moved to Regina to be closer to family. His greatest joys were his family, his faith, his love of music and his visits with many friends in Estevan. His greatest gift in life was his ability to make people laugh.
Special thanks to the staff of Silva Care Home for their friendship and care in the last year of his life, the staff of the Cardiac Surveillance Unit of the Pasqua Hospital for their exceptional care, and Grace Hospice for their gentle care in the last days of his life.
A celebration of Louis’ life will be held in Estevan at St. John the Baptist Church on November 6th at 1:30 pm. Interment is at Souris Valley Memorial Gardens, Estevan, followed by lunch in church hall for family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Marian Centre at 1835 Halifax St. Regina, S4P 1T4.
