Ivan Thring
(Oct. 14, 1916 – September 13, 2010)

Ivan Thring was born on October 14, 1916 at Benson, SK and passed away at the Lampman Community Health Centre on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the age of 93 years.

Ivan was predeceased by his parents, Wesley and Theresa Thring; wife Edna Thring; brother Ted (Ruby) Thring; sister Mary (Gabriel) Zimmerman; son-in-law Stan Dunham and nephews, Michael and Greg Zimmerman.

He is survived by his loving family: children, Larry (Gloria) and their children, Chris (Brandy) and Brent; Kathleen (Emil) Schatz and their children, Ken (Leanne) and Wanda (friend Jeff); Sharon Dunham and her children, Jeff, Jason (Jennifer) and Karen (Trent) Duval; Jim and his children, Andria and Aaron; Mavis (Cliff) James and their children, Michael (Laurie-Ann), Kevin (Bonnie), Steven (Jo) and Theresa (Scott) Pearson, and Ron; 23 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Ivan was educated at Walton School and helped on the home farm. During the depression and drought he worked around the Oak Lake area. Ivan married Edna Foley in 1941. They rented land near Viewfield and later moved to the Walton School District where they farmed and raised their children. Ivan and Edna retired to Stoughton in 1981. Ivan enjoyed sports, was an avid reader of westerns and enjoyed a good western movie. In retirement, Dad and Mom both enjoyed bowling.

A public graveside service in Ivan’s honour will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Stoughton Town Cemetery with Pastor Robert Fenn officiating. A luncheon will follow at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall, Stoughon.

In lieu of flowers, those so wishing may make donations to the Lampman Community Health Centre or a charity of choice in Ivan’s memory.
