Hedy Martha Cote
(June 3, 1921 – April 15, 2011)
Hedy Cote, formerly of Estevan and Lampman, passed away in Regina at the age of 89 years.
Hedy was born to Alfred and Magdalena (nee Donauer) Schlageter on the farm north of Meyronne. She was predeceased by her parents; one sister Irma in infancy; her husband Arthur Cote; son David Cote; brothers, Henry Schlageter and Karl Schlageter; sister Lena Caswell (Dick) and sister-in-law Rosalie Schlageter.
She is survived by her children, Marie (Cliff) Willock, Anne (Bill) Twist, Fred (Trish) Cote, Rick (Shirley) Cote, Dan (Kate) Cote and Robin (Nancie) Cote; daughter-in-law Louise Cote; 16 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren; sister Katie (Frank) Mulatz; brother-in-law Ray Cote; sister-in-law Eveline Cote, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Hedy attended Kramer School, then took three high school years in Gravelbourg, where she lived with her grandparents. She went to Regina Normal School in 1940-41, then taught at Menard School and Landau School until 1943. Hedy married Arthur Cote in 1942 and started a family in 1944. They moved to Lampman in 1948. She went back to teaching in Lampman for 12 years due to a teacher shortage, they moved to Estevan in 1969. They sold the farm and Art worked at the Luscar Mine, while Hedy taught school at St. Mary’s for 13 years, retiring in 1982. She also was a member of various organizations, including the CWL, Legion Auxiliary, School Board, Library Board, Home & School, Seniors 50 & over Club and canvassed for the Red Cross.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 21, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Estevan, by Rev. Peter Nijssen. Interment will follow in the Estevan City Cemetery.
