Gladys was born on April 9, 1923 in Goodwater, SK. As a child, she loved to run, swim, and play baseball and basketball. She was a member of the Imps ball team that was well known around here. On October 19, 1946 she married Rene La Coste, her childhood sweetheart in Toronto. After the war, Rene and Gladys moved back to Estevan. In 1955, they moved to their place in the valley, and this was like a little piece of heaven to Gladys. Rene and Gladys had 5 children: Wayne (who died in infancy), Brenda, Randy, Wendy and Bruce. Gladys always said that she felt being a mother and grandmother was the biggest and best role in her life. As a mother, she spent countless hours teaching her children and nieces and nephews how to swim. She loved living in the valley, visiting with the neighbours, admiring nature and all God’s creatures. She was the major organizer of most of the family gatherings. She faithfully attended all her children’s track and field and school events. Gladys was an inspiration to her family in all aspects of life. She looked for the best in everyone and had unconditional love for her family and friends. Gladys had great faith in the Lord and she lived a Christian life to the best of her ability. She will be cherished and missed by family and friends and our world was a better place because of her presence.
