Jean Margaret Matthies
(November 30, 1935 – January 1, 2011)
Jean Matthies passed away in Weyburn, SK on Saturday, January 1, 2011 at the age of 75 years.
Jean Margaret Matthies was born November 30th, 1935 on the family farm near Nora Saskatchewan. Jean was the youngest child of Hartvig and Ora Hanson. Jean passed away on Saturday January 1, 2011.
As a young mother with small children Jean was a full-time homemaker for several years. Jean worked at the Robinson Store, and the Estevan Nursing Home. Jean retired in 1995.
Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, who found her greatest pleasures in life were those occasions which brought her family together.
In her leisure time Jean enjoyed crocheting and knitting. She was an excellent cook and baker. Jean liked to travel and enjoyed many trips to British Columbia and Alberta to visit with family and friends.
Jean was predeceased by her parents: Hartvig and Ora Hanson; three brothers: Orville, Alec and Glen; two sisters: Bernice Matthies, Helga LaBelle.
Jean is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Reg; son, Walter (Florence); two daughters: Wanda Matthies and Susan (Ken) Wingert; 3 grandsons, 4 grand-daughters and 2 great-grandsons; one brother, Max (Sheila) Hanson; one special niece,
Sandra George, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Jean’s family would like to extend a special thanks to Tatagawa View Nursing Home doctors, nurses and staff for their care and support.
A Memorial Service for Jean will be held on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Tatagwa View Nursing Home Chapel, Weyburn, with Marjorie McLeod officiating. A private family interment will take place in the Macoun Cemetery.
