Susan Mary McCleary
(June 14, 1909 – January 15, 2011)
Susan Mary McCleary (nee McElwee), born June 14, 1909 in County Tyrone, Ireland, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 15, 2011 in Estevan, SK at the age of 101 years.
Susan arrived in Estevan from Ireland in 1926 with her family of four sisters and one brother. In 1936 Susan married Jim McCleary who had arrived in Estevan, also from Ireland, with his family in 1920. Susan and Jim lived in Estevan until they sold “McCleary Motors” and retired to the Kelowna area in the 1970s. Their retirement was shared with many happy visits from family and friends during those Kelowna years. Susan returned to Estevan shortly after Jim’s passing in 1983 where she has resided since. Susan was also predeceased by her son Richard, her five sisters and brother and her granddaughter Megan.
The remarkable gift of memory which Susan was blessed with always ensured a cheerful greeting in a card or phone call from Grandma, Great Grandma or Aunt Susan on special occasions. Susan will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Jack (Aurore) of Calgary, AB and Peter (Jeri) of Nipawin, SK, seven grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Prayers will be held on Monday, January 17, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. in the chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, January 18, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. in St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Estevan, by Rev. Joel Rama. Interment will follow in the Estevan City Cemetery.
