Obituary for Sadie Eva Mehler (Dame)

Sadie Eva Mehler (Dame)
Sadie Eva Mehler of Stony Plain, AB passed away peacefully on August 9, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Care Centre, Stony Plain, AB.

Sadie Eva Mehler was born to Oswald & Yvonne Dame on October 14,1925 in Benson, SK. She worked on the farm, cleaned houses with her mother and at age 15 moved to Estevan where she was employed in waitressing, cooking and sales. It was at a relatives wedding she met and later married Tony Mehler. Together they started their family: Barry, Terry and Bonnie. Along with raising a young family and boarders in the home Sadie also worked full time. She started working for Woolworths in March of 1961 as cashier, then made department head of the shoe department. In 1974 she was promoted to Manager of the shoe department, where she worked for 28 years, retiring in July 1989. Sadie was a busy lady that taught her boys how to clean and cook, both Joanne and Marnie thank her for that!

Her favourite place to be was home. She loved to welcome everyone in for a meal and a visit and she made sure everyone that came felt welcome and of course was well fed.

Sadie had arthritis in her hands and was told by doctors to keep them busy and boy did she listen to them... she quilted, crocheted and gardened. She loved her geraniums and all the grandchildren knew not to run in the flower garden. Sadie loved to cook for her family and some of our favourites were: Sunday fried chicken, strawberry pie, cinnamon buns and grandma buns.
.
Sadie may not have been a member of many clubs or organizations but she was the CEO of her family. She had no desire to see the world but loved to go for Sunday drives in the country, stopping along the way for ice cream. She loved to travel to Edmonton and Moose Jaw to visit her grandchildren and attend all of their activities, she even made the trip to Ontario to take in the Baseball Nationals.

With no immediate family in Estevan, Tony and Sadie moved to Moose Jaw in 2007 so Bonnie and her family could care for them.

It was in 2010 that they suffered the loss of their daughter Bonnie, and with that they moved to Alberta. The last 4 years has seen a gradual decline in health and in December of 2013 Sadie lost the love of her life Tony.
Here we are again 7 months later to celebrate and remember our mom, mother-in-law, grandma and great grandma. We have so many wonderful memories of her as do you. We are all so thankful for her love and support. May she rest in peace with her beloved husband Tony and daughter Bonnie.

Sadie will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Barry (Joanne), Spruce Grove, AB and Terry (Marnie), Beaumont, AB; son-in-law Terry (Verna) Lane, Moose Jaw, SK; grandchildren, Jennifer (Dave) Atkinson, Jason Mehler (Bish), Jeremy Mehler (Jaimie), Ryan (Julie) Mehler, Shawn (Tina) Mehler, Sarah Mehler (Jeff), Nathan Lane and Jordan Lane; great grandchildren, Bayley Atkinson and Spencer Atkinson; sister Hazel McCoy; sisters-in-law, Isabel Dame, Delores Mehler, Eva Mehler and Betty Veroba, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Tony Mehler; daughter Bonnie Lane; parents, Oswald and Yvonne Dame; sisters, Alice Scherlie and Doreen Lacelle and brothers, Ed Dame and Raymond Dame and extended family.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, August 18, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at St. John the Baptist R.C. Church, Estevan, by Rev. Brian Meredith. Interment will follow in the Estevan City Cemetery.

Those wishing to make donations in Sadie's memory may do so directly to the New Estevan Regional Nursing Home, 1201 - 2nd Street, Estevan, SK S4A 0M1.
