Alida Vass (Steenbruggen)
On Wednesday, October 15, 2014, Alida (Steenbruggen) Vass, late of Carnduff, SK passed away at Sunset Haven, Carnduff at the age of 94 years.

Alida, the first daughter born to Bernard J. & Cornelia Steenbruggen at Cantal, north of Carnduff, SK, was predeceased by her brothers, John and Pete.

She leaves two sisters, Joan McCumber of Trail, BC and Corie Orser of Calgary, AB and her brother Bert of Carievale, SK. Also left to mourn her passing are her son Rae Vass (Pat Murray) of Regina, SK and her daughter Buryl Keath (Morris Linnell) of Medicine Hat, AB. She also leaves two granddaughters, Sarah and Megan Vass and her great grandson Wesson Hart, along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Alida returned to Carnduff from Estevan in 2003 to reside in the care home where her mother-in-law was the first resident in the 1950s and where her mother also spent her final years.

Prior to that she spent many years in Estevan where she retired from her reception and X-ray technician duties at the chiropractor's office. During her working years she wore many hats - lifeguard at the Carnduff pool, primary school teacher, telephone operator and clerk at the Red & White and Murray's Bakery in Carnduff.

She and Andy Vass (1917 - 1978) were married after the war and lived in Regina, Weyburn and Carnduff during their time together.

Her great joy in life was her fellowship with the Church of Christ in Estevan. She made many life-long friends and loved her Wednesday bible studies and Sunday services. She and her family were very grateful for their love and caring over the years.

A Memorial Service for Alida will be held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Estevan, with Tim Pippus officiating. She will be laid to rest with Andy at the Carnduff Cemetery.

Those wishing to make donations in Alida’s memory may do so directly to the Church of Christ, 1302—8th Street, Estevan, SK, S4A 1H6.
