Obituary for Mathilda Florence "Tillie" Carlberg (Wetsch)

Mathilda Florence "Tillie" Carlberg (Wetsch)
Mathilda “Tillie” Florence Carlberg
1925 - 2015

We regret to announce that, on August 4, 2015, the full life of Tillie Carlberg came to a peaceful end. Born April 19, 1925, youngest of eleven to Clementine and August Wetsch, Tillie grew up on a farm south of Estevan. As a young woman, she met the love of her life, Harold Carlberg. They married November 9, 1945 and shared sixty wonderful years together until his passing in the summer of 2006. Throughout their lives, they remained devoted partners while growing a successful dairy farm and raising three children. Together they were active in the Saskatchewan Dairy Association and 4-H and were awarded a Master Farm Family Award. After 24 years together on the farm, she and Harold moved to Estevan where they pursued new careers with Tillie focusing mainly on retail. In their retirement, they enjoyed fishing, and travelling.

Tillie was most at home in Estevan, where she remained active in community life as a volunteer in politics and a member of the Saskatchewan Arts Council. A woman of great faith and energy, her many contributions to Trinity Lutheran Church and St. Paul’s United Church will not soon be forgotten. Tillie was a lifelong learner, and her breadth of knowledge and agile mind were apparent to all who knew her; particularly over a game of bridge or Monopoly. She particularly enjoyed preparing and serving delicious dinners for her family and friends.

Tillie is survived and dearly missed by her children, Marilyn Hadwen (Bill, deceased), Norm Carlberg (Janet), and Gayle Ansley (David); her seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and the dear friends whose lives she touched.

She was predeceased by her husband Harold and her brothers and sisters, Joe Wetsch, Mary Krance, Margaret Mickel, John Wetsch, Anton Wetsch, Peter Wetsch, Catherine Lamb, Jacob Wetsch, Frank Wetsch and Rose Adams.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 3, 2015 at 1:30 pm, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Estevan, with Pastor Stewart Miller officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, 738 – 2nd Street, Estevan, SK, S4A 2B3.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan.
