Murray was predeceased by his father, Ivan Horsman, grandparents, Ira and Frances Horsman and Theodore and Mabel Orsted, three uncles and three aunts.

Murray was born on April 25, 1951, in Midale to Ivan and Eileen (Orsted) Horsman. He was delivered by Doc Mainprize. He received his elementary education in Halbrite and his high schooling in Midale. He was raised and spent the most of his life on the farm near Halbrite. He worked with his dad as a mixed farmer, but his greatest passion was ranching and being able to tend to his cattle. Murray called his workshop on the farm, Horse’s Welding and Recycled Junk Shop. There was a saying etched on his workbench that said: I can fix just about anything, miracles take a little longer. He enjoyed working with his hands and this was quite evident in the detail of the craftsmanship that went into his work. Murray loved to weld, repair machinery, do woodwork, cook, create pencil artwork and craft miniature metal ornaments or invent something new to assist him with a project. He was a perfectionist and his workmanship was impeccable. When the Rafferty Dam became a reality in 1988, their farming and ranching endeavors came to an end. After leaving the farm in 1991, Murray moved to Estevan, calling it his retirement home. He would never say no, to anyone that needed assistance. He was often called upon as a handyman and could tackle any job he put his mind to. Soon afterwards, Murray met Nelly Marcotte, the love of his life. On March 13, 1997, they were married. He was a calm, strong and loving man who enriched the lives of Nelly and her children. Murray had a special bond with his neighbor’s day care children and they would always say, Hi Mr. Murray, to him. He travelled to Texas, Mexico, Hawaii and the Netherlands. He had a green thumb and was proud of his garden, flowers and yard. In his past time, Murray loved to fish and would go to Tobin Lake or ice fish at Rafferty Dam. He worked close with his two brothers at various projects, over the years. Murray will be missed and always be remembered for the great person that he always was.

A Celebration of Murray’s Life was held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. in the Chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan with Mr. Doug Third officiating. His brother, Rodney Horsman, gave the eulogy. Interment will take place at the Halbrite Cemetery, at a later date.
