Obituary for Ernest Adolf "Ernie" Schmidt

Ernest Adolf Schmidt
December 2, 1936 – March 26, 2018

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Ernest “Ernie” Adolf Schmidt of Regina, SK formerly of Estevan, SK on Monday, March 26, 2018 at the age of 81 years.

Ernie was predeceased by his parents Emil and Emelia Schmidt; mother-in-law and father-in-law Gus and Ethel Hartenberger; brother Dennis, sister Ruth Ritchie; brothers-in-law Bob Ritchie and Al Trapp and brother-in-law and sister-in-law Stan and Margaret Jackson.

Ernie will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Josie; daughter Gail (Brent) Eckert; sons, Russell (Colleen) and Darcy (Carol). Many fond memories will be cherished by Ernie’s grandchildren Richelle (Kyle) Favel, Lisa (Kim) Korchinski, Devin Miner Schmidt, Taryn Eckert; great grandchildren Ty and Jace Favel and Valley Korchinski. Ernie will also be missed by his sister Erna Trapp; brothers, Ed (Louise) and Walter (Bev); sister-in-law Joy (Ron) Schmidt-Staats; brother-in-law Rudy (Donna) Hartenberger; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ernie and Josie raised their family on the Schmidt homestead near Lampman, SK, where Ernie farmed for 50 years until retiring to Estevan, SK in 2007.

A Memorial service was held on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, Estevan with officiants Rev. Daniel Krauss and Pastor Joy Schmidt-Staats. A time of fellowship and lunch followed the service. Interment will be held at Woodley Cromar Cemetery at a later date.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan.
