Obituary for Wilfred H. Coderre

Wilfred H. Coderre
Wilfred H. Coderre
1920 - 2018

Joseph Harry "Wilfred" Coderre, born November 23, 1920, in Fox Valley, Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully August 5, 2018, at the Fillmore Union Health Centre, Fillmore, Saskatchewan.

Wilf joined the Air Force at the age of 19. His war years included a year and a half as a prisoner of war. Upon his return, he bought a truck and, in 1945, started his own business hauling fuel, gravel, cattle, and grain. His one-truck operation evolved into a very successful gravel business - a legacy left to his three sons.

Wilf married Lucy Maginel in 1947 and they raised their five children in Forget, Saskatchewan. Wilf and Lucy enjoyed travelling and, after their retirement, spent many winters in Arizona and, later, in Abbotsford, British Columbia. In August 2015, Wilf and Lucy and family celebrated a major milestone for the company - 70 years in business.

Wilf will be remembered as a humble, honest, and reliable businessman with a strong work ethic, a devoted husband, and a great example to his family of whom he was most proud: his 5 children, 11 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren.

Wilf is survived by his five children: Del (Shirley) Coderre and their family, Melissa (Barry) Chorneyko and their children, Joseph, Catherine, Lucy, and Anna; Candace (Bill) Ruetz and their children, Nathan, Emily, Elizabeth, Daniel, Claire, and Matthew; Nadine Coderre (Scott Derby); Colette (Jeremy) Procyshen and their children, Luke, Dominic, and Brett; Kim (Sharlet) Coderre and their family, Michelle Coderre and her children Jayden, Abby, and Jersey; Monique (Scott) Regier and their son, Cameron; Danielle (Joel) Simpson and their children, Sarah, Rachel, and Jaxxson; Randy (Jean) Coderre, Lynne (Bob) Morrison and their daughter, Brooklyn; Tammy (David) Coderre-Kells and their children, Alexandra, Damien, and Jonathan.

Wilf was predeceased by his wife, Lucy; his parents, Amos and Bella Coderre; sisters, Germaine Coderre and Irene (Coderre) Michalski; brothers-in-law, John Maginel, George Maginel and Rudy Michalski; sister-in-law Maryanne Maginel; and three great-grandbabies.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday, August 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Our Lady of La Salette R.C. Church, Forget, Saskatchewan by Rev. Ed Hengen. Interment was held at the parish cemetery immediately after the mass, with lunch following at the Royal Canadian Legion in Stoughton.

The family thanks the staff at the Fillmore Union Health Centre, who helped maintain Wilf’s comfort and dignity while he was a resident. We also thank Hall Funeral Services for their assistance.

Flowers are gratefully declined, but those wishing to make a donation in Wilf’s memory may do so directly to Our Lady of La Salette Cemetery Fund (Box 28, Forget, SK, S0C 0X0) or to the Fillmore Health Centre Activity Fund (Box 246, Fillmore, SK, S0G 1N0), which helps enrich quality of life for residents.
