Obituary for Allan William Leatherdale

Allan W. Leatherdale
1948 – 2022

Allan, late of Estevan, SK, passed away on Saturday, October 1, 2022 at the Regina General Hospital, Regina, SK at the age of 74 years.

Allan was predeceased by his first wife Diane (Berger) and their unborn child; parents Orville and Evelyn Leatherdale; and brother-in-law Duane LaCoste.

Allan is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 25 years, Elaine; son Brant (Tara) and children; daughter Dawn; Elaine’s children, Don (Danielle) Dechief, Raymond (Veronica) Dechief, Brian (Leanne) Dechief and families; siblings, Arnold (Pat) Leatherdale, Jean LaCoste, Gordon (Pat) Leatherdale and many nieces, nephews and cousins and his beloved puppies, Tia and Molly.

Allan was born in Radville and attended school in Gladmar and Minton. He took over the family farm north of Gladmar. In 1983 he began working in maintenance at New Hope Lodge in Stoughton. There he met his partner, Elaine. The two were married on June 21, 1996, and subsequently moved to Estevan to both work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, in maintenance once more for Allan. They had many good years together, working in their yard, on home reno projects, caring for their pups and enjoying each other’s company. Allan inherited musical talent from his mom and easily picked up the acoustic and electric guitars. Sometimes Elaine would join in with her bass guitar and they would sing together. They both liked to travel and took the opportunity to do so when they could. Allan and Elaine loved each other and enjoyed being together, were compatible and cared for one another. Allan’s family is grateful that Elaine came into his life.

Elaine wishes to thank their wonderful neighbours (angels in disguise), Val Tendler and Darryl Hodge for looking after Tia and Molly, along with countless other kindnesses; as well as the St. Joseph Hospital staff, SHA Estevan Ambulance, the doctors and nurses of Ward 6F at the Regina General Hospital, Father JB Okai, and Lay Chaplain Bonnie Thiele.

The Funeral Mass for Allan was held on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist R.C Church with Rev. Sathiadas Antony presiding. The lunch reception was held in the parish hall following the service.
