Obituary for Donald Lyle Anderson

Donald L. Anderson
1938 - 2023

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” Matthew 5:4

Peacefully, at home, with family by his side, our father, grandfather, brother and friend was called to Heaven to be reunited with his beloved wife, Rosemarie on February 10th.

Dad was born in 1938 on a farm in Meota Saskatchewan to James and Edna Anderson. He was a farm boy at heart but quickly got noticed for his rough and tumble hockey skills. At 16 years old he signed with the Humboldt / Melfort Indians with the legendary Junior coach Scotty Munro. When Mr. Munro moved the team to Estevan, Dad played here for 2 years and met Mom. After his junior hockey career ended Dad played a year of Pro hockey in the Boston Bruins farm system but returned to Estevan to marry the love of his life. Mom and Dad settled in Yorkton, raised 3 children and Dad continued to play semi pro for the Yorkton Terriers until 1971.

In 1979, the family moved to Medicine Hat where Dad worked as a motor man for Precision Drilling, retiring when he was 71.   Mom and Dad moved back to Estevan in 2005 and enjoyed coming home to Estevan very much. Dad loved horses, especially standardbreds, and enjoyed going to the races or watching them on TV. Later in life he became a passionate Toronto Blue Jays fan and loved watching virtually every game on tv. But most of all, Dad loved his wife of 60 years Rosemarie, his children, Murray, Patti and Jeanine (Paul) and his grandchildren, Emma and Devon and of course his fur babies.

Dad was a quiet, humble, hard-working man with a heart as big as all outdoors. We miss him deeply but are comforted knowing he is forever with Mom now.

The family will have a private interment and would appreciate in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Estevan Humane Society, Box 1095, Estevan, SK S4A 2H7 in memory of Donald.

Thank you to all our neighbors and friends for your kindness and condolences during this difficult time, may God bless you all.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”  John 3:16
