Obituary for Michael Deren

Michael Deren
1929-2022

Michael Deren was born December 4, 1929, just outside of Lampman, Saskatchewan and he lived his entire life in the immediate vicinity, passing peacefully in Lampman on August 31, 2022.

Michael was a hard-working and successful farmer, but his real passion was community service. This was especially true in his decades long career as a school trustee at all levels, including as the Chair of the Estevan Rural School Unit and Vice-President of Saskatchewan School Trustees.  He was noted throughout the province for his leadership, in spite of his stutter.

In his later years he devoted a great deal of time to exploring his faith and his spiritual beliefs.

He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew and Emilie (Bloch) Deren, and his older brother, Tony.

Michael is survived by his wife Georgina (Doty) with whom he enjoyed a remarkably close relationship of well over 70 years.

He is also survived by his family: son Gregory (Terrie Dunand), granddaughter Christina, great-grandchildren Hannah Tran (Aeydan Yee) and Nathan Tran, granddaughter Natasha (Dale Redding), great-granddaughter Jessica Redding (Robert Gaetz); son Douglas (Penny), granddaughter Naomi (Jason Vellenoweth), great-grandsons Brydon Vellenoweth and Conley, grandson Corbett (Aimee), great-grandsons Ty and Ben, granddaughter Amery (Bre) and great-grandchildren Donte, Sierra, Mia, Emily, Eva and Laine; daughter Mary (Alvin Dube), grandson Nevin (Jenny) Dube, great-grandchildren Madi and McKenna, grandson Noel (Jena) Dube, great-grandchildren Andi and Bexx, grandson Nigel Dube; daughter Laura, granddaughter Tegan (Robin) LeComte, great-grandchildren Jaxon and Ethan, grandson Alex Fehr; daughter Paula (Bruce) Hesselink, grandson Jake Hesselink; other children also part of the family, Tanalee Hesse (Gord Howie), and Anu Bakshi (Sunil Varughese) and their children Jaya and Dev.
