Obituary for Rita Helen Hawes (Bradwell)

Rita Helen Hawes
August 31, 1939 - January 17, 2020

Rita Hawes passed away peacefully on January 17,2020 at the Estevan Regional Nursing Home at the age of 80 years.

Rita Hawes was born on August 31,1939 in Macklin, Sask. Growing up, Rita had a nack for helping others. From making dandelion bouquets for the seniors to carrying groceries, as long as she was doing for others, she was happy. At the age of 16, Rita and her kid sister in tow, decided to venture out on their own. Rita had a job at working at the Training facility in Red Deer, Alta. There she helped take care of handicapped children. Helping was her calling.

In 1959, Rita married the man of her dreams, Ron Hawes. They started a family, having 4 children. Rita had a huge heart, wanting to help children. Rita and Ron became Foster Parents. Fostering dozens of children, Rita was in her glory, doing what she loved. After living all over Canada, they retired in Estevan, Sask. Rita and Ron moved into Sussex Arms and once again, Mom flourished. She befriended a lot of the residents and took to caring for some. She was known for her constant singing, dancing and making people laugh. She always had a huge smile on her face and quick to say Hi.

Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her grandchildren. She was in heaven whenever they were around. Ready with hugs, kisses and treats every time. Her favorite past time was getting on the floor and playing with her grandsons and great grandson. As the years went on, Rita was always busy, whether it was making coffee for the residents every afternoon or visiting with them and getting into mischief. She always had a twinkle in her eye. Her laughter was infectious.

Rita always wanted everyone to be happy, no tears. As we celebrate her life, we do it with tears from laughter thinking of her antics and the love she shared with everyone . Thank you Mom for raising us to be the adults we are today. Remembering to laugh and do the "jig". We love you with all our hearts Mom.

Precious memories of Rita will be cherished by her children; Lynn Hawes, Rick Hawes (Shelley) and Barbara Mullally (Brian). Rita will be sadly missed by her grandsons, Chris, Kyle (Jessi), Tyler (Ashley) and Brenden Smart; great grandsons, Xavier and Kade Hawes.

Rita was predeceased by her husband, Ron Hawes; daughter Penny Ann; parents, Alice and William Bradwell as well as siblings, Frank Bradwell, Bud Bradwell, Bob Bradwell, Florence Tipton, Fanny Lee's and Rose Sirret.
