Obituary for Rodney Fredrick Harris

Harris, Rodney “Rod” Fredrick
1945 – 2019

Rod Harris passed away on Friday, May 24, 2019 at the Estevan Regional Nursing Home, Estevan, Sask. at the age of 73 years.

Rod was raised on the family farm at North Portal, Sask. Rod attended the School of Agriculture at the U of S and later studied for his B.A. at the University of Saskatchewan Regina campus. Rod worked for the Provincial Government in the Land Bank program and later in the Family Farm Improvement Branch of the Department of Agriculture, living in Weyburn and then Swift Current. After returning to the North Portal/Estevan area, he began driving for Nowsco, an oilfield service company, then joined Bert Baxter Transport Ltd. where he drove long-haul routes throughout North America for 20 years until he was no longer well enough to work.

Rod’s favourite place to be when he was not in his truck, was at the cottage at White Bear Lake where he enjoyed friends and neighbours and visits with family. Rod was grateful for the cheerful and attentive care given to him by the staff at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Estevan and the Estevan Regional Nursing Home.

Rod was predeceased by his parents, Oliver and Ida Harris.

Rod is survived by his son Jeffery of Toronto, Ont. and his daughter Sara of Toronto. Also left with fond memories of Rod are his brothers, Barry (Fay) Harris and Don (Marcia) Harris; sisters, Gwenn (Reg) Ronyk and Michele (Dale) Milne and their families.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Christie for her care.

A Graveside Ceremony to honour Rod’s life will be held at the North Portal Cemetery at a later date.
