Obituary for William Joseph Jarvis

Jarvis, William Joseph
1927 - 2021

William (Bill) Jarvis, late of Estevan passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2021 at the St. Joseph’s Special Care Home, Estevan at the age of 93.

William was born in Unity, Saskatchewan on March 21, 1927 to Joseph and Charlotte Jarvis, and was the eldest of 8 children. He moved to Regina in 1947 where he attended school to learn to repair electronics and televisions and it was in Regina that he met his wife Margaret, married and started his own family.

He worked for Boman Brothers, and then Eaton’s until he retired. He and Margaret moved to Estevan in 1986. William was known as a fix it guy, carpenter and inventor. He loved to do woodworking, and used to make various birdhouses, which he sold at the farmers markets and craft sales alongside his wife who sold her Barbie doll dresses. He liked to keep busy and was always working on several projects at the same time. He enjoyed watching nature shows, working in the garden, and reading National Geographic magazines. He enjoyed bird watching and would put out food for the birds where he could watch them from his sun porch. He was a huge baseball fan. A stern, no nonsense, but very loving father, he will be missed by those he left behind.

William is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Charlotte Jarvis, his loving wife of 53 years, Margaret, a son Robert, and a daughter Linda, as well as his brothers, Lloyd (Vivian), Conrad (Dianne), and Donald (Paula) and his sisters Marion (Dave), and Lily (Frank).

He is survived by his son Terry (Shannon); as well as his daughters, Julie (Larry) Livingston and Debbie (Manuel) Menduina; his granddaughter Tammy (Mike) Densley, great granddaughter Katya, and his grandson Ryan (Mary). He is also survived by his two sisters Hazel (Ivan) and Margaret (Aubrey), as well as various nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to extend a special Thank You to the caregivers and nurses in the long term care home of St. Joseph’s hospital who made all the difference in William’s daily life, and who worked tirelessly to make him comfortable in his final days. Your kindness and thoughtfulness was very much appreciated.

In keeping with William’s wishes, there will be no formal service.

Those so wishing may make donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
