Obituary for Roy Keith Brinkworth

Roy Keith Brinkworth
Roy Keith Brinkworth
May 14, 1934 – April 27, 2016

Roy Brinkworth of the RM of Coalfields, Bienfait, SK, passed away at 81 years of age, on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at St. Joseph's Hospital in Estevan, SK.

Roy was predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Gladys Brinkworth; brother Albert; sisters-in-law, Adeline (Joseph) Brinkworth, Ruth (Joseph) Brinkworth and Thelma (Harold) Brinkworth, and brother-in-law Paul (Lorretta) Madarash.

Roy is survived by his brothers, Joseph of Balcarres, SK and Harold of Regina, SK; sister Lorretta of Lintlaw, SK; nieces and nephews, Ernest (Linda) Brinkworth and children, Jeremiah (Lynne), Jennifer, and Stephanie; Edell (Doug) Diggle and child James and granddaughter Ariana; Darrin Brinkworth; Jason (Laura) Brinkworth and children, Cooper, Tyson and Jayla; Tony and Russell Madarash and uncle Bob Long, as well as a number of cousins.

Roy was born and Baptized on the family farm and attended Britannia school. After finishing school, he worked for George Berday and Floyd Kellington. He was then employed by Motorways for 35 years, while working on the family farm. After the passing of his father in 1960, Roy and his mother Gladys took over the farm. Roy and his mom would move into Estevan over the winters making life a bit easier not having to push snow or bare the cold winters in the old farm house. He continued farming after the passing of his mother in 2010. Roy was a member of Knox United Church in North Portal and was their recording secretary for the past 41 years. He especially enjoyed the fowl suppers and fellowship with his church friends.

Roy was very independent and was quite handy at repairing machinery when others would have abandoned it. He was an avid reader, enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening, fishing, woodworking and photography (taking pictures of family, grain fields, sunsets and storm clouds). He loved nature, picking berries in the ravine and observing birds and wildlife in their natural state. Roy enjoyed baking cookies, pies, cakes and bread. In his younger years he liked playing softball and dancing. He was still bicycling, snow shoeing and cross-country skiing in his eighties. One of his greatest passions was bowling, which he enjoyed for nearly 60 years and especially enjoyed the time spent with his friends that he met there on weekly basis.

A Funeral Service was held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 2, 2016 at Knox United Church, North Portal, SK, with Sandy Dalziel officiating. A luncheon was held in the church immediately following the service, after which interment took place at the Bienfait Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make donations in Roy's memory may do so directly to the St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation, 1176 Nicholson Road, Estevan, SK, S4A 0H3.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Estevan.
