Obituary for Félix René Martine

Félix René Martine
Félix René Martine
1930 - 2016

Félix Martine passed away peacefully with family by his side on Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Redvers Health Centre, at the age of 85 years. Despite our loss, we know that he is at peace and just where he has wanted to be-with his wife Cécile, who predeceased him July 16, 2008.

Félix Martine was born to Marcel and Georgette Martine on September 25, 1930. He was one of 9 children: Jean, Marie, Joe, Lucie, Paul, Félix, Roland, Alphonse and George. He was predeceased by his wife Cécile, his parents, Marcel and Georgette Martine, as well as brothers, Jean, Paul, Roland, and sisters, Lucie and Marie.

He is survived by his loving family: three sons, Denis (Huguette), Donald, David (Jill); five daughters, Diane (Anthony), Adèle (Ivan), Mariette, Lucille, Gisèle (Bernard); 20 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Joe, Alphonse and George; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins.

After attending school in first Braeside, then Gravelbourg, Félix took over the family farm. He spent many hours tending crops, fixing machinery and building electronics. He was a pillar of the community, taking a very active role in the Bellegarde Co-op and Bellegarde Parish. Félix also served proudly as Reeve of the R.M. of Antler for many years.

Reverend Father Wilfred Calinawan lead a private family Prayer Service and interment at the St. Maurice Parish Cemetery.

The family would like to thank the doctors, nursing and home care staff in Redvers and Weyburn who provided compassionate care for our father. The support you offered to our family during this difficult time was greatly appreciated.

Those wishing to make donations in Félix's memory may do so directly to the Redvers & District Community Health Foundation Inc., PO Box 766, Redvers, SK S0C 2H0.

A Farmer

We say goodbye to a farmer today,
Telling the story of life on the farm.
A good life, a simple life, that’s what he led,
He’d struggled like most, but came out ahead.
And eventually, retirement, if ever a farmer could,
Stop worrying or working, but he did it, for good.
During his last years, he made sure that he thanked,
The good Lord above for his life, and his land.

His time ended quickly, his loved ones in tears,
Hoping he knew what he meant to them all through the years.
Today we gather, to remember and pray,
About a simple man we loved, who was there every day.
Through joy and sorrow, laughter and pain,
He was there when we needed him, right up to the end.
For we know he’s at peace, and praying for us,
Knowing some day, he’ll greet us once more.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Redvers.
