KINGSFORD

Kay Wilson - "Mrs. Wilson" the teacher to us children of the one room school house in southern Saskatchewan. How is it possible that I had this wonderful adventure to start my life? I lived in a world of learning to read stories that took me on wonderful adventures along with learning about our world. I was a dreamer and Kay encouraged me, and with her guidance she showed me how to read and write. Kay encouraged me to enter writing and art contests, and as small as I was, to try out for athletics too. I still have a ribbon from the Estevan fair for one of my entries that she helped me to enter. Kay inspired me to chase after my dreams which taught me how to be unafraid to go after them. I remember skating on the slough, playing baseball, and riding my horse to school. I believe that the Estevan paper wrote an article on a funeral for a “skunk” that Kay helped us with, and how it touched me that she would care so much. She taught and gave us all this and more. For example, she encouraged for me to go on to the stage at a Christmas concert - I sang 'I'm A Little Teapot," and because everyone was smiling and clapping, I kept repeating the song... I was only four. For a kid to have even one memory to inspire them is exceptional, but I have many from her. Thank you Mrs. Wilson - you were my teacher, and you touched the future! Celie
