Obituary for Lorraine Mary Rose Marcotte (Chevrefils)

Lorraine Marcotte
June 27, 1935 – April 14, 2018

Lorraine Marie Marcotte passed away in Regina, SK on April 14, 2018 at the age of 82.

Lorraine was born in St. George, Manitoba on June 27, 1935, first daughter to Alfred and Rosalia Chevrefils. She married Rene Marcotte and moved to Saskatchewan in 1953. In 1957 they moved to the farm where they spent the next 25 years before retiring to Estevan.

Mom’s life’s goal was dedicated to being the best farmer’s partner she could be. There was nothing that she would not try to accomplish. When dad was working the roads in the first few years, she was responsible for running the farm along with raising us children as we came along.

Mom was an expert seamstress making all types of clothes for us over the years. Something I was not able to copy. Her cooking was incredible but her baking was even better. We all have fond memories of coming home from school to a home filled with the smell of cinnamon buns and cookies. She made the most amazing buns. Her grandchildren remember trays of buns sitting on the cupboards cooling off, waiting to eat them.
Mom was involved in many activities throughout her life. Everything from 4-H leader, square dancer, CWL, census taker, bus driver and to her love of travel.

Her legacy is found in the quilts she made, her recipes handed down and the many family functions that she hosted. Her Catholic beliefs and traditions were an important priority in her life.

Lorraine is survived by her children: Lorin (Colleen), Karen (Ed), Rose Marie, Maureen (Brent), Marcel and son-in-law Brad; her precious grandchildren: Allison (Steve), Lindsay (Dan), Russell (Jenna), Shawn (Heather), Chris (Cori), Austin, Jessica, Renee (Cory), Andrew (Sandra), Jeff (Elaina), Jen (Andy), Jasmine (Kyle), and Jeremy (Brittany); 20 great grandchildren with 2 more arriving this summer; siblings: Sylvio (Jeannette), Florence, Linda (Ed) and sister-in-law Wilma; in-laws: Clem (Agnes), Norman, Emile (Mary), Henry (Caroline), Geraldine, Lorraine (Clem), Omer (Chris), Loretta, Mary, and Marie; and many nieces and nephews.

Lorraine was predeceased by her parents: Alfred and Rosalia, husband Rene, daughter Brenda, grandson Jason, son-in-law Lyle, brother Sylva, sister Evelyn, parents-in-law: Arsene and Eva Marcotte, and in-laws Andre, Roland, Raymond, Hector, Roger and Edmond. We will treasure and value her influence on all of our lives. The smells in heaven just got better.

Mom fought a hard battle in the last few years with Alzheimer’s. We want to thank Sunset Extendicare staff in Regina for their care and their continual commentary on her happy smile and sweet nature.

Prayers were held on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Hall Funeral Services, Estevan, SK. with Marian Huber officiating. The Funeral Mass was concelebrated on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, Estevan, by Rev. Sathiadas Antony and Rev. Norman Marcotte.

Lunch followed in the church auditorium, after which interment took place at Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery, Torquay, SK.

Those wishing to make donations in Lorraine's memory can send by mail or in person to Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301-2550 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or by phone to 1-800-263-3367.
