Obituary for Laurence Marie Martine (Paulhus)

Laurence Marie Martine (Paulhus)
Laurence M. Martine
1930 - 2016

It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our dear wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Laurence Marie Martine passed away peacefully in Arcola Hospital on Sunday, July 3rd, at the age of 85, surrounded by her loving family.

She was the second child of Delisca and Armand Paulhus. She is survived by siblings Jacqueline, Nathalie, Edouard, Therese, Robert, Lucille, Raymond, and Hubert, and predeceased by her parents and her sisters, Marie-Marthe and Madeleine. She was born on the small family farm near Bellegarde. For her education she boarded at the Bellegarde Convent School.

In 1949, Laurence met and married Joe Martine. They built their lifetime home on one of the quarters they were farming. They raised seven children in this home. Yvette, Richard, Rudy, Gilles, Bernie, Claude and Claudette grew up on the farm and attended Bellegarde School, the last three finishing high school in Redvers.

Laurence was well known in the area for her baking. It never mattered who showed up at the door, neighbors, traveling salesmen, or the tax man, she was always ready to have coffee and homemade sweets on the table. She often provided baking for Bellegarde fowl suppers and local events and got rave reviews.
In the summer, Laurence enjoyed tending her extensive vegetable, fruit and flower gardens. In winters she spent time crocheting and knitting.

Laurence was a caring woman of great faith, and was a dedicated member of St. Maurice Parish in Bellegarde and in recent years Our Lady of Fatima Parish in Redvers. By example, she instilled an enduring spiritual quality in her children and grandchildren’s lives. She will be dearly missed by her husband Joe of 66 years, her children, and grandchildren: Erin; Gerald and Daniel (Christy); Thierry, Gabriella, Juliana and Cheryce; Brielle and Chanaya; Matthew, Nicholas and Emilia.

We would like to thank the doctors, nursing and homecare staff in Redvers, Lampan and Arcola who provided compassionate care for our mother. Your support to our family during this difficult time was truly appreciated.

Prayers were held on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Fatima R. C. Church, Redvers, SK. The Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima R.C Church, Redvers, SK. with Rev. Wilfred Calinawan presiding both services. The lunch reception was held immediately following the service in the parish basement. Interment followed at St. Maurice Parish Cemetery, Bellegarde, SK.

Memorial donations may be made to the Redvers & District Community Health Foundation Inc., PO Box 766 Redvers, SK. in memory of Laurence.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Hall Funeral Services, Redvers.
